Charlize Theron Shaves Head for Role: Other Actresses that Went Bald for a Part
Charlize Theron is no stranger to transforming herself for a role. She famously used a lot of makeup to eliminate her good looks for the 2003 film "Monster." Now the Oscar winning actress is going bald for the sake of her craft. The "Prometheus" star ditched her trademark blonde hair when she shaved her head for the movie "Mad Max 4: Fury Road." The 36-year-old actress was recently snapped with her new look while happily toting son Jackson in Beverly Hills. Charlize, who currently stars in two of the highest grossing movies of the summer, joins an exclusive club of actresses that shaved their heads for a part. Here is a look at some other women that did the same thing.
Natalie Portman
Years before the "Black Swan" star picked up her own Oscar, she proved her dedication to acting by going bald for the comic book thriller "V For Vendetta." Her special haircut can be seen during one of the pivotal scenes of the movie, removing any speculation that special effects played a part in the new look. "I was so trying to focus, be in character," she said when describing the infamous scene. "Because we had one shot to do it. I don't really have any personal memories of the experience." It's a good thing that nothing went wrong on that day of filming.
Demi Moore
We have seen Bruce Willis's ex-wife appear in several movies with short hair, but she went a step further for "G.I. Jane." In the movie, her character embraces every tradition that comes with being a Navy Seal. That includes shaving off her hair in a scene that probably did little to inspire real-life women to join the elite combat unit. In addition to shaving her head, the actress bulked up and went through military training in order to prepare for the! movie.< /p>
Sigourney Weaver
Weaver had already built a reputation as one of the toughest female action stars around before she reprised her role as Ellen Ripley in "Alien 3" in 1992. Proving that there was nothing she wouldn't do to make us believe in the character, the star shaves her head during a key scene in the movie. The new look plays a role in the story as Ripley wants to fit in with the all-male prison population aboard the doomed spaceship. Little did we know that this would start a trend of long-haired actresses going bald for movie roles.
