Charlize Theron's 'Hatfields & McCoys' series sold to NBC

Actress Charlize Theron sold her idea of a series based on the Hatfield/McCoy feud to NBC.

The series would be a contemporary take on the Civil War-era feuding families. Theron will also be a producer of the series along with ABC Studios, which produced the pilot Beautiful People for NBC last season.

The History Channel has had great success with its miniseries Hatfields & McCoys, which stars Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton as the respective heads of the two families. It drew in more than 14 million viewers.

Theron, 37, plays the evil queen in Snow White and the Huntsman, currently in theaters. Her next film, Prometheus opens Friday.

The actress has also expressed interest in appearing on the hit HBO series Game of Thrones.

"I watch a lot of stuff that people are somewhat shocked by, but I am absolutely like foaming at the mouth with Game of Thrones," she said. "My mom was like, 'Do you think it's fine that you're feeding your son while there's like sword fights?' I was like, 'It's fine, Mom. It's fine'. So, I'm somewhat obsessed with that right now."

Thrones concluded its second season on Sunday and is renewed for a third season.
