Universal to release Charlize Theron film Agent 13 with Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt ...
Universal Studios has picked up Agent 13, a sci-fi film with Charlize Theron attached to star and Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt set to direct.
Variety first reported on the project earlier this week, noting that Agent 13 was being sold to studios as a package with Theron and Wyatt attached. The film was scripted by T.S. Nowlin and is based on an obscure 1980s comic book that features a male main character. Theron will play another part as Nowlin and Wyatt kept the lead role male.
Despite the obscure source material, Warner Bros., Paramount, Universal and 20th Century Fox were all bidding on the package. Deadline reported Friday that Universal won out, offering what is described as a whopping deal.
The project will probably have to be put on hold, as Fox still wants Wyatt to direct a sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which was a huge box office success last year.
Theron, who won an Oscar for 2003s Monster, will also produce the project under her Denver and Delilah banner. The Hollywood Reporter notes that Sean Daniels, who has been working on Agent 13 since last year, will also produce.
Agent 13 is one of many projects Theron has in the works. She is coming off a critically-acclaimed performance in Young Adult and will be starrin! g in two anticipated films this summer, Snow White and the Huntsman and Prometheus.
