Charlize Theron continues good Hollywood trend; Jon Hamm is just like us - Ask Pinky

Dear Pinky,

I was caught off guard by news that Charlize Theron has adopted a baby. What do you have to say about this development?

Caroline in Easton

Dear Caroline,

Hollywood single ladies have gone a bit adopted-baby crazy, of late, and I think it's a good thing. There are so many children who need loving homes, and famous folks can provide that just as well those who live under the radar.

First, Oscar-winner Sandra Bullock shocked everyone with news that she'd adopted a little cutie named Louis from Louisiana. Next, Kristen Davis of "Sex and the City" fame introduced the world to her adopted bundle Gemma Rose. Now, Charlize Theron, another Academy Award-winning actress, has announced she is the proud mother of an adopted baby boy named Jackson.

The kid's photo has not been released. Theron, who split from longtime lover Stuart Townsend in 2010 and is said to be dating Ryan Reynolds, is not what Pinky would call a tabloid staple, so it could be a long time before we see what Jackson looks like.

I suppose Angelina Jolie, who also has a Bes! t Actres s Oscar, should be credited with starting the adoption trend. She was single back in 2002 when she brought Maddox home from Cambodia, having just split from second husband Billy Bob Thornton. Jolie proved, too, that famous folks can find love after single adoption.

She and Brad Pitt, of course, are the drop-dead-gorgeous duo known worldwide as Brangelina. Let's just hope that if Bullock, Davis and Theron set out to find baby daddies, they'll leave Jennifer Aniston's current squeeze alone.

jon hammJon Hamm: Yeah, I said it. They're idiots. So what?
Dear Pinky,

What do you think of Jon Hamm's smackdown on Kim Kardashian? Was it warranted or over the top?

Jennifer in Bethlehem

Dear Jennifer,

Us Weekly has this regular feature called "Stars -- They're Just Like Us." In it, they show famous people leaving the grocery store with milk, picking their noses, playing with their kids at the park, whatever. The goal, I guess, is to prove that Hollywood types do all the stuff regular folks do.

I think of Jon Hamm's comments about Kim Kardashian -- he said she, Paris Hilton and their ilk are celebrated for being idiots -- as a verbal version of "Stars -- They're Just Like Us."

Most folks, including Pinky, have moved from marveling at to being annoyed by Kardashian and! Hilton' s idiotic antics. The "Mad Men" star is just like us.
