Charlize Theron On Her Secret Comedic Side

When Charlize Theron's upcoming film, "Young Adult," hits theaters later this month, people may be confused by what they see: instead of the knockout blonde dramatic star, they'll be getting pitch perfect comedic timing. But those that know Theron best -- or have seen her in a certain little mid-2000s sitcom called "Arrested Development" -- won't be surprised at all.

It's just a matter of finally being given the right opportunity to show off her talent.

"I mean, sometimes it's hard when you ... not hard. That sounds horrible. People have preconceived ideas and this whole industry is a little ass-backwards," she recently told Moviefone. "You know, the whole 'red carpet gown' thing. People, I think, believe that more to be reality versus what we do as actors and what we love and who we are. And, also, I really don't go on the defense on having to feel a need to go and explain who I really am. When I work with people, I think they get a sense of who I really am."

Theron has largely starred in dramas, with an Oscar win for her serial killer role in "Monster" and parts in films such as "The Cider House Rules" and "The Road," amongst others. But even in her dramatic roles, she's worked to defy the idea of glamorous Hollywood blonde who is glamorous at all times.

"More interesting stories come my way about what we consider real people than about glamorous, beautiful people," Theron told W Magazine in 2008. "It really irks me that people think I choose these roles because if I'm not looking attractive, they will take me seriously. I'm sorry, but if I'm going to play a cop, I'm not going to be wearing eyeliner. I'm not going to wake up in a scene with lip gloss on, because that's not how women wake up, not even the most b! eautiful women."
