Charlize Theron based her character in Young Adult off of observations of women who were just like her character.

Therons character in the film is described as a depressed aging mean girl who isnt all that likable. As for the physical aspect of her character, shes stuck in a teenage fantasy and dons a teenage icon: Hello Kitty.

As she was promoting her film in NYC, the 36-year-old actress spoke of how much she loathed the Hello Kitty trend among women in their 30s, adding that people should be concerned about it.

I'm pretty amazed by Hello Kitty. Heres why...I see so many women in their 30s walking around in Hello Kitty st and nobodys concerned for them, Theron said, according to Us Weekly. "It's the one iconic teenage symbol that seems okay for women in their 30s? The world seems to not have an issue with it."

Thats why, she jokes, her demands for playing the role were, Get me some Hello Kitty t-shirts.

Theron says the likable and cute Kitty was not a staple as she was growing up. Instead, Theron "grew up on '70s films with Gene Hackman, Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman."
