Hollywood Stylist Leslie Fremar On Dressing Charlize Theron, Reese Witherspooon & More For The Red Carpet: EXCLUSIVE

1. Working for Anna Wintour

Canadian-born Leslie worked under Anna Wintour for five years and, while she admits it was petrifying (was there drama? Yeah!), she is defensive of her notoriously elusive editor. I think people are intimidated by powerful women like Anna, she says. Im not talking about powerful women like me being a stylist or you being a writer. Annas very powerful. If she was a guy, it wouldnt be the same. No one would really overthink it. Theyd think that he was really good at his job.

2. The other side to Anna Wintour

Leslie said she saw another side to Wintour when she visited her house, presumably to deliver the infamous book. When she goes home at night, shes a mom and shes a really good one. I think people forget that. I would see that because Id have a relationship with her kids, or I would have to bring something to her house and theyd be watching TV and having dinner. I think shes able to separate that and leave her work at work.

3. On giving her A List cli! ents the personal touch

Youre in someones house, youre trying on clothes, which is something youd associate with your girlfriend or your sister people in your life that you probably had those experiences with growing up in the past. Youre dealing with peoples insecurities and body-image issues. Theyre just girls like anyone else. Its definitely a sensitive, intimate job.

4. A red carpet look can make or break a career

If its the perfect dress on the perfect person in the perfect moment, it can definitely have an impact.

5. Julianne Moore's red carpet style

'Julianne Moore is very architectural and sophisticated about her choices. She likes things that have interest or something thats a little off about them. She doesnt make safe choices and she likes to explore fashion. Leslie adds it was important that Julianne had very distinctive looks for each of the three big awards shows. For the Emmys, she wore the yellow Dior knit sweater and skirt. It was so unusual and an odd choice for her. I dont think you imagine wearing a sweater to an awards show but it really worked. It was really powerful.

6. Charlize Theron's haircut was a red carpet challenge

Leslie reveals that it was a challenge to dress Charlize Theron with her newly cropped hair. We wanted to make sure it stayed with a more modern feel. Her Dior Oscars dress certainly accomplished that. Charlize is really adventurous she really gets into the whole overall process.

7. Reese Witherspoon is more playful

Reese Witherspoon is a little more playful. In her casual clothes she always looks really cute, and with a dress, a little more Californian. She likes her clothes simple, nothing too overwhelming. For her its about fit and colour.
