Charlize Theron on board for Seth MacFarlane's western

"A Million Ways To Die In The West," which was announced last December, will play on all the codes of Westerns and feature quirky humor similar to Mel Brooks's "Blazing Saddles" (1974). Screenwriter and director Seth MacFarlane will also play the lead role in the film as a jittery farmer who has been dumped by his wife. He then asks a famous outlaw's wife to help him become a shooting ace and ends up falling in love with her, thus courting danger. "A Million Ways To Die In The West" will be an opportunity for MacFarlane to show his face on the big screen after voicing the irreverent bear in "Ted." For her part, Theron will be able to rely on her comic ability, previously seen in the series "Arrested Development" and the movie "Young Adult." Filming on "A Million Ways To Die In The West" is due to start in May. Before that, Seth MacFarlane will present the 85th Oscars ceremony on February 24.

Charlize Theron Picks Up an Honor For Her Fight Against AIDS

The event, held at the Swiss resort of Davos, honored Charlize for her efforts in the fight to eradicate AIDS. After receiving her statuette from the wife of the organization's chairman, Hilde Schwab, she addressed the audience and joked that she was "getting smarter by osmosis." Africa: Charlize Theron Appeals to Davos on Aids

In the relatively short time AIDS has been known to the world, it has divided communities. It has killed because of stigma and ignorance. It has left millions of orphans. And it has caused untold suffering in sickness and death. My home country of South Africa has felt the impact of this pandemic in a way that is simply unacceptable. It's nearly impossible to be South African and not have been affected by HIV/AIDS in some way. The scars that have been left by this disease are felt globally and will never go away, but we can beat it. I founded my Africa Outreach Project, CTAOP, because I believe that working to help keep youth safe from HIV is pivotal to turning the tide. We work with community-engaged organizations in Africa that address the key drivers of the disease. It's exciting to see the momentum building in the youth to take responsibility and ownership over their own health. Seeing this progress on the ground, and knowing the advances made on a global scale are encourag

Dvd picks: Effects bolster alien tale

FANS of Ridley Scotts Alien franchise would be fans of Prometheus too. After all, Prometheus hints that it might be a prequel to the Alien series. Scott is an established director and producer, known for his blockbuster works including Body Of Lies, Robin Hood, Kingdom Of Heaven and White Squall. Prometheus is also a blockbuster, highly anticipated before its release for its catchy tagline, The search for our beginning could lead to our end. They went looking for our beginning. What they found could be our end. However, something important seems missing from the storyline. First of all, it moves oh-so-slowly, building viewers anticipation to the point where we might get tired of waiting. The story is of a group of scientists who discover a clue to the origins of mankind. They travel through the universe on the spaceship Prometheus to find out more. While doing so, they inadvertently unleash the terror that is not only a threat to themselves but to mankind. There are too many things goi

A shorn Charlize Theron was spotted on Sunday still sporting her short hair. The actress, 27, got a buzz cut some six months ago for her role in "Mad Max: Fury Road." Theron was first attached to the film in 2009, but it was shelved after a series of production setbacks. "It's been three years: It's time to skin this cat already!" Theron told Us Weekly while promoting Prometheus in London May 30. "I'm very excited about it." Recently she's been in Africa filming, although just before Christmas she popped up on the streets of Los Angeles. New photos today show the star holding cute baby Jackson, the little boy she adopted in May 2012, at LAX airport.

Charlize Theron May Sign on for Paul Thomas Andersons Inherent Vice Alongside Robert Downey, Jr.

Image
Posted on Tuesday, January 8th, 2013 by Russ Fischer Thomas Pynchon fans have reason to celebrate this year. The reclusive author (is Pynchons name ever mentioned without the word reclusive?) has announced the imminent publication of a new novel, for one. And his previous novel, Inherent Vice , is the subject of an adaptation effort by none less than Paul Thomas Anderson . Pynchons novels have never yet been the basis for a major film, though his influence has been felt in small ways in more than a few movies in the past. Inherent Vice will be the first major film based on a Pynchon novel, and it benefits from quite a creative team. Anderson is writing, possibly with the help of Pynchon himself, and Robert Downey Jr. has long been in place as the likely choice to play the central character, burnout detective Doc Sportello. And now Charlize Theron is reported as a likely addition as well. Roger Friedman reports that in addition to Downeys continued attachment, Theron is looking lik
