Charlize Theron to Produce and Possibly Star in Film About Slain Journalist

Charlize Theron Producing Film About Marie Colvin

When Charlize Theron emerged on the scene in the mid-1990s, no one could have guessed that the lovely South African-born actress would become one of the most in-demand leading ladies in Hollywood. However, in the years since, Theron has become a one-woman force of nature, shifting effortlessly from genre to genre and bringing a number of juicy female characters to life.

Now, Theron is looking to follow up her work on this past summersSnow White and the Huntsman and Prometheus with the real-life tale of a fallen journalist.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Theron along with producer Basil Iwanyk (The Expendables, Wrath of the Titans) are working to make a film about Marie Colvin, who was slain in February while covering the current civil war in Syria. An American writer for the British newspaper The Sunday Times, Colvin covered a number of wars during her career, including a conflict in Sri Lanka that cost her one of her eyes.

The untitled project will be based on the Vanity Fair article Marie Colvins Private War by Marie Brenner, and a search is ongoing to find a writer to adapt it for the big screen. One of Brenne! rs previous articles was adapted into the 1999 Al Pacino/Russell Crowe drama The Insider.

Theron and Christina Ricci in 'Monster'

Though it is not yet confirmed, inadditionto producing the film, Theron may be looking to star. However, seeing as Colvin was 56 at the time of her death, the 37-year-old actress will likely need to wear prosthetics or heavy makeup to appear the right age for the role.

Of course, Theron previously made herself completely unrecognizable for her Oscar-winning performance as real life serial killer Aileen Wuornos in 2003s Monster. Between that role and impressive turns in films like North Country and Young Adult, theres no doubt that Theron is more than capable of lending Colvins tragic tale the gravitas and depth that it deserves.

Seeing as the film would add another complex character to her repertoire, Theron will likely be tempted to snag the lead role in this one. Add to that her undeniable appeal and ability, and any studio would be fortunate to have her headline their film.
